Installation Instructions
Fitment

American Racing Torque Thrust II 17" wheels may require a thin spacer on front Cobra or GT calipers. This kit fits drum brake spindles and hubs on 65-73 Mustang, Cougar, and 70-77 Maverick. Note that 65-67 disc brake spindles are the same as drum spindles and require a V8 drum hub. Will NOT fit Granada or 68-73 disc brake spindles.

Questions & Answers
Q: What wheel size do I need to run these 13" Cobra front brakes?

Plan on at least a 17" wheel. Most 65-73 owners run 17x7 or 17x8 wheels to clear the larger Cobra caliper and rotor, but the exact backspacing/offset that clears varies by wheel design - some wheels need a thin spacer. Confirm your specific wheel's inner clearance with us before you order rather than assuming a particular backspacing number will work.

Q: Does this kit include the Cobra calipers and rotors, or do I need to source those myself?

This is a caliper mounting kit - it includes the custom brackets that adapt the 1994-2004 Cobra 13" caliper and rotor to your 65-73 spindle. You'll need to source the Cobra brake hardware (calipers, rotors, pads) separately, typically from a donor Cobra or a reman supplier.

Q: I'm still running drum brakes - what else do I need to change

If you're converting from drum brakes, you'll also need a dual-reservoir master cylinder sized for disc service and a proportioning valve, since the larger Cobra calipers use more fluid volume than stock. Many customers add these at the same time as the brake swap.
