Description

This complete cable clutch conversion kit covers 65-69 Mustang, Cougar, and similar Fords, converting the clutch pedal to a later-model quadrant or fulcrum-and-clevis setup for a cable-operated clutch. The clutch pedal and pedal stop are optional additions to the kit. 67-70 kits now use the same firewall block as the 65-66 kit, with an added spacer to lower the block by 1/4" and position it correctly on the firewall.

What's Included:

  • Adjustable firewall block cable stop
  • Cable with 3" adjustable threads
  • Pedal option for 1964-68: pedal with welded quadrant, or separate quadrant requiring welding
  • Pedal option for 1969: pedal with fulcrum and clevis, or fulcrum requiring welding
  • Clutch pedal stop (bolts to pedal support)
  • Plastic flange bushings for pedal shaft (2)
  • Shaft washer and cotter pin
Fitment

Works with original classic-style bellhousings, but requires installation of a cable-type release arm and a new pivot bolt (fulcrum).

A 10" or 10-1/2" diaphragm clutch is required (e.g., Ford Racing King Cobra); the 10-1/2" clutch requires a late-model flywheel bolt pattern.

This kit is designed for T-5 or Tremec conversions; for original Mustang standard transmissions, some fabrication is needed, including a cable-type release arm, a new pivot bolt, an aluminum plate welded into the bellhousing, and a fabricated cable housing stop.

Questions & Answers

Q: Is the clutch pedal and pedal stop included?

They're optional add-ons on this kit rather than mandatory inclusions. If your factory pedal and stop are in good shape you can reuse them, but many customers add the matched pedal/stop since they're engineered for correct cable quadrant travel and clearance.

Q: How does one kit cover 65-66 cars and 67-69 cars, since the cowl floors differ?

The 67-69 kits now use the same firewall mounting block as the 65-66 kit, with an added spacer to account for the firewall differences between those body styles. That lets one core design cover the range instead of requiring completely separate firewall hardware for each year.

Q: Does this fit cars other than Mustang, like my Cougar?

Yes, this kit is also used on Cougars and other Ford platforms that share the same firewall and pedal box design as the 65-69 Mustang - double-check the full fitment list or ask us to confirm your specific year/model before ordering.

Q: What headers and cable routing actually work well with this kit?

Long-tube headers aren't recommended with this kit - they commonly route close enough to the cable and quadrant that the housing can rub against the primary tubes, and sustained heat will melt the cable's outer liner and cause a rock-hard or binding pedal. Shorty or mid-length headers designed for cable-clutch clearance are the safer choice. If long tubes are unavoidable, route the cable away from the header path as much as possible and wrap any section that must pass nearby in heat-resistant sleeving, maintaining at least 2 inches of clearance from the header or exhaust.
